The last days a couple of great resources for link building were released, so I think it’s time to round-up and put some of them together – completed with my thoughts and comments on the various sources

For novice link builders

SeoLogs Father’s link building guide — Badi Jones put together a nice roundup to start explaining your old daddy how to build some traffic to site … worth a read and a digg, and while it’s not 100+ ways to build links it’s something you can READ and talk about easily to non-SEOs

Why Link Reciprocation Kills your Ranks is a bit lenghty but greatly detailled post about why doing recip link exchange not only is worthless but can kill your rankings

Linking out is important and was just confirmed again by Matt Cutts and Rand Fishkin as they took care of where their users link out to .. Jim re-visited the whole co-citations and outlinking as he already explained it in big detail last summer… now everybody should be aware that outlinks are important for a site’s trust rank … the times of page rank hording are really over, I agree with Jim

For advanced link builders

Blog post services not detectable is the common sense of Rand’s post about a Chicago session… well frankly that’s only true for THOSE blogs that are REAL blogs and not only setup to feed PayPerPost, blogvertise and other “pay per blogpost” services

Aaron chimes in suggesting to get high quality reviews at ReviewMe – a service I still have to try.

Quality Score the new pagerank – thoughts about publishing the Adwords Quality Score to advertisers… that’s the next big thing in Link Valuation IMHO… and I agree with Aaron that the Quality Score is influenced by the organic results… Amazon and ebay DO pay less for advertising their products than any PPC arbitrager … makes sense to me

Indirect linking is a concept I’ve been talking about for months to my clients – and since Chris want’s to talk about better natural link building anyway, I felt can talk about this idea in public anyway … after all the audience of this blog is pretty limited anyway – so enjoy if you haven’t already

Domain Trust concept vs. page trust – with presell pages on .edu domains being sold for some time (and I heard they sell like hot cake) it becomes obvious that the concept ob using an old domains trust to power your younger site is some that simply works!… Aaron Wall thinks the concept of domain trust will be lowered or narrowed down pages on those domains that are REALLY old and got a lot of links…

I think Google is going to have to reduce their weighting on domain trust and place more on how well the individual page is integrated into the site and integrated into the web as a whole.

Well frankly that’s how it already works today – the more links the better, the older the page, the better it is if you get a link there… I think Aaron’s point is (and I agree) is that the overall influence of an old domain is SO strong, that it creates a real incentive to buy old sites as Jim and others do on a large scale

Getting links from .edu and .gov sites is a very valuable thing, as even the SEJ talks about recommendations for .gov link hunting — however I wouldn’t call using pages like this and this for paying money to get a .gov link under the radar … I’m sure none of these sites pass any link value

For the black hats

Forum spammer software – while I don’t link to it, you should know that there’s software out there that cracks captcha security , fakes user accounts by auto-registering that on free-mail services and of course does all that crap via 100s of anonymous proxies … and that’s just the start … oh – and of course blog spamming software that cracks CAPTCHAs and other protection is out as well – but IMHO there’s more attention on fighting blog spam than forum spam… does PHPBB and Vbulleting have an akismet plugin? I assume no.

Forum Private Mail spammer software – the end of spam free forums is near – software to send out MASS-PMs to all registered users is available and it’s the same principle as with email spam… send out 1,000,000 PMs to get 10 or 20 buys…

Video spam – again something I won’t endorse with a link, but the cat’s out of the bag that posting stuff on YouTube helps your rankings – no wonder – it’s a great trusted domain … getting a link from there is like getting a link from Yahoo or an old .edu site… and if it’s not for the link juice, it’s for human traffic… there are companies out there selling this service already

(note – all these blackhattish things won’t result in high quality links, despite the title… it’s more a high-tech armed link spamming toolkit I would put such stuff into … DO NOT USE SUCH STUFF AT HOME OR GET YOUR SITES BANNED)

New link Builder tools for all

Of course you have to checkout Jim’s new updated SEO tools

Michael provides a couple of handy bookmarklets – reminds me I need to reveal and update my own “SEO Bookmarklets”: once again (heck I couldn’t even find the page they are located on… how could YOU ? … TODO)

If you ever wondered about the perfect link then Jim’s team member wrote a little story about his experiences with Jim’s take on it…

Post to Delicious Post to Reddit Stumble This Post

Brad Fallon has put up a new video that deals with the advantages of organic search optimization vs. pay per click traffic.

Obviously this is a teaser campaing for one of his new (info?) products as it’s hosted on convertlinks.com (which domain just went 2+ years old – links will start to work).

Some topics or findings he touches:

get 2 SERP entries for 70% probability of click-thru

demographics show: highschool kids only click 33% on organic search, so PPC is good for that target group… higher educated and therefore those with buying power people click 55-65% on organic results… so if you are selling to those you know what do improve

then he goes a bit into detail on the long tail keyword phrases, low hanging fruits or just 3+ word keyword search phrases that convert much better and how to target them

conversion testing after around 16 min is another topic- some nice samples about security logos in the wrong place impacting conversion negative were quite interesting… that part is really worth watching

that first video is here

Then there’s a 2nd video I didn’t watch in full as it again had a pretty slow start, but it later on at minute 13 or so talks about LSI or latent semantic indexing which is a technology search engines use today…

if you every wanted to understand what LSI is, they have some nice, simple samples in there… GO SEE IT!

so the second video is here

After the videos they send you to a signup page for their autoresponder – and well I signed up again… I get so many unqualified spam these days that one or two single targetted sales mails really don’t make a difference … I thank them for putting me on a list that targets my needs and of course I use a qualified email that I can anytime – like “brad-fallons-new-video@mydomain.com” … hehe

Post to Delicious Post to Reddit Stumble This Post

"Pierre's RSS to Coop converter":http://www.marketingfan.com/a/rss-marketing/rss-to-google-coop-converter-live.php is already capable of converting your weblog's RSS (or any RSS) to the Google Coop subscribed links format in a static downloadable file.

This means you have to repeat the process by hand all the time, which is something I'd never do.

So I created the *realtime RSS to CoOp converter* which allows you to get the Coop subscribed links format directly via an url you specify.

Realtime RSS to Google CoOp Converter

By Marketingfan.com Internet Markting Blog

The Google CoOp subscribed links feature is a great way to provide your visitors and subscribers with extra links to your site or resources you recommend.

A while ago I already mirrored Pierre’s RSS converter here that is capable of converting your weblog’s RSS (or any RSS) to the Google Coop subscribed links format.

Pierre’s tool only converts the file once, which means you have to repeat the process by hand all the time, which is something I’d never do.

So I created the realtime RSS to CoOp converter which allows you to get the Coop subscribed links format directly via an url you specify. You can use it as specified below.

your advantage : simply add the url to your CoOp profile in the syntax described below and you’ll never have to care about uploading the CoOp file to Google.

Syntax is

http://tools.marketingfan.com/tools/rsstocoop-mirror/getcoop.php?rssurl=http://www.yourdomain.com/yourrss.xml

simply replace http://www.yourdomain.com/yourrss.xml with the full url to your RSS file.

The following example ALWAYS returns a real time (live) converted version of the MarketingFan RSS feed.

http://tools.marketingfan.com/tools/rsstocoop-mirror/getcoop.php?rssurl=http://www.marketingfan.com/index.xml

The Domain Research Tool (a.k.a DRT) that I wrote about in January offers a big load of new features, that will improve your domain search experience

Therefore the new public release #22 is a good reason to sum up the new features… and play with them – Lots of cool new features…

IDN Support: Domain Research Tool now supports international domain names (IDNs). This is required for *Umlaut-Domains and domains in foreign character sets (like Japanese) …

This means that you’ll be able to load and scan international domain names just as easily as you scan regular domains. All IDN conversion is done in the background so that you never have to worry about converting from UTF8 to punycode. DRT is the only tool to offer integrated IDN support and a bulk IDN converter.

Domain Typo Generator: You can generate hundreds to thousands of typos from other domains and keyword phrases. Generate typos in 250 TLDs and quickly check them for availability and typein score. a great addition as this feature was missing initially (but the existing domain name generator tools were already quite extensive, so this makes it a 99,99% afte 98,88% functionality required

TLD .SE Whois/availability checking now works

Dmoz and Yahoo directory scanning for domains now available. you can scan domains for Yahoo/Dmoz directory listings. an obviously useful feature!

the new TLDs .BE, .GR, .DK zone files were added.

Referer spoofing – the user can now set referer in HTML header when performing availability checks

new Word Combinator feature in the Domain name generator – this feature allows you to combine primary and secondary keywords for your domain name checks…

you have the ability to scan just keywords for popularity in Google and then
- the ability to convert keyword results to domains.

monitor various domain changes such as nameservers, IPs, through the new domain portfolio manager ( like a workbook for your interesting domains )

Wow… what a load of features…

and remember you can still download a free trail of the Domain Research Tool DRT and the MarketingFan promotion price is still active… so you can still save over $50 when buying thru my link compared to the MSRP price.

Post to Delicious Post to Reddit Stumble This Post

Just not sure if this will help me extend my own membership by 14 months, started back last July… any ideas?

Post to Delicious Post to Reddit Stumble This Post

Christoph,

I wanted to congratulate you on switching your blog over from MT to Drupal. I am intrested to hear about how the switch went from one platform to another and what tools drupal had in place to make that happen.

In the past 12 months I have become increasingly intrested in cms such as wordpress,(my platform of choice), drupal and mt.

In fact yesterday, the day you launched your new updated site I recieved “Building Online Comminities With Drupal, PHbb and WordPress. Drupal sounds great, I love the aspect of allowing other people to post on a blog. While I know I can do this with wordpress I have not looked into it deeply. Over the last 12 months I have launched about 8 blogs, about three or four other them are not out of the google sandbox (however seams the sandbox is much different now after big daddy) and earning money at a nice rate. Nothing to brag about at this point but each month I have increased my adsense income at a steady pace.

Again congrats on the upgrade

Post to Delicious Post to Reddit Stumble This Post

Today I want to share an impressive new tool I found 2 weeks ago with you …
it was made for domain research and purchases

Yes, I hear you say – oh no – not another keyword generator combined with a WHO-Is Lookup… I love the keyword generator at whois.sc and it does not cost me anything.

Well I must admit I did think just like that before, until I saw an impressive list of features and a recommendation on the DNforum – the biggest domain professional community there is.

I am talking about the Domain Research Tool – DRT – available from Lezon Corporation at domainresearchtool.com

How to do convenient domain research with DRT

This tool is particularly interesting for all SEOs and affiliate marketers, because it combines a set of unique features I - up until now – only found separated in other tool.

Find type-in domains using Overture keyword data – the Overture Digger allows for deep scanning of Overture based on domains generated from Overture keyword results.

Find existing domains and developed sites listed in Google, MSN, YAHOO- based on their rankings for keywords you specify – can be used to find patterns between various domains, rankings and keywords.

Of course the obvious keyword mixing generators from keywords, lists, existing domains, etc.etc. that such a tool needs

Analyze the domains for their Alexa Rank, PageRank

Analyze the domains for their Link Popularity in Google, Yahoo, MSN, Alexa

Nice automatic functions like Auto-Appraise domains – setup your own value formula to get and idea of a domain's worth – or use the existing one
#Send bulk offers on domains

#Track offers, auctions, negotiations, purchases, sales.

#Scheduler – Set domain alerts to go off at certain date and time.

Check whois of over 100 TLDs – even all the country TLDs like Austria, Poland, Romania, .EU etc.etc. and even more exotic countries can be queried from one tool – THAT is convenience – let your machine work for your – not vice versa!

Flexibility – the Domain Research Tool allows the user to configure almost every feature to match that user's needs. From thread settings, to filter settings to e-mail server settings and much more, all with a few clicks.

Separated Scan and Watch Windows keep your important domains in a separate watch list so that you can monitor them constantly while allowing you to scan raw lists in the Scan window

Filters – filter incredibly large domain lists and zone files and setup things like "only domains with keyword xy", max 10 chars long, etc.etc.

One Click Export allows for exporting your scan or watch list into Excel, HTML, XML or text.

The following two sections explain some especially interesting features for you

Who else want's built-in support for 1000 proxies ???

This tool has a full multi proxy checker integrated – it checks for function and anonymity, so search engines won't ban you for the 1000s of queries you send automatically to their user interface.

Only working and anonymous proxies are used – and you can get 1000s of public open proxies – the hassle is, that they might go down during analysis… but DRT disabled proxies on the fly if the error rate reaches a specific limit.

Now you could even use this functionality ALONE to get a really clean and working proxy lists for your rank checkers, keyword researchers and other tools that don't offer this functionality!

How to take maximum advantage of D.R.T. Hosted features

That's what the owner and producer of the tool doesn't emphasize too much on his site

they provide you with a hosted licensed zone files for .Com/.Net/.De/Co.UK – 100s of Megabytes to download with ALL the domains registered

domain lists including expired, expiring, registrar-hold and redemption period allow you to quickly download and scan daily updated drop lists.

they provide hosted SMTP for the bulk offers for the domains – let's you send out hundreds of offer mails

the TURBO lookup – is a hosted WHOIS proxy – that can speed up lookup dramatically compared to the usual sluggish whois lookup

Why do I need a domain research tool? I'm not buying domains!

well, even if you don't buy a single domain you can

find developed sites based on their keyword rankings and age and send offers to them

monitor your existing domains for search engine stats

use the great proxy scanner for your other tools

do your overture keyword research with it – creating 100s and 1000s of keyword combinations with the integrated tools

What will this tool cost me?

The original price that you can get it on their website is $249.90

You can check that price by just visitng their normal site without my promo link at https://www.domainresearchtool.com/buy.htm

Well, after testing the tool for a while and talking to the company and it's owner Luc, I negotiated a promo price for my readers andd clients to offer you that
tool at

Anyway, you can download a trial that let's you test everything with 10 domains only for free…

And as soon as you decide to purchase at that great promo price, just use this link

Domain Research Tool DRT for <s>$199.90</s> $129.90 Promo

This will allow you to order the tool at this steep discount, using credit cards of even Paypal, which works perfect – you'll get your serial number within seconds and can continue working with DRT after entering it into your trial installation – no extra setup binaries are required.

But remember, this promo will expire soon!

Update 02/14: there is a new version out that allows even faster domain-availability checking by simply trying a DNS resolve instead of a full and expensive WHOIS lookup – I love that great speed!

Post to Delicious Post to Reddit Stumble This Post
