Use text instead of images – we don’t OCR

Now this is funny… the years old wisdom of not using images on your site but normal text that can be indexed was repeated yesterday by Google's senior engineer Matt Cutts

funny and pretty off-topic IMHO…

I wonder if this can be seen as a signal about a pre-release of OCR technologies in Google's spiders ?

After all some colleague of Matt told me in August that in 5 years from now ( or ealier ) that Google won't care about the media you publish your content in

And comeon – OCR technology for images is not a rocket-science… this technology is stoneages old…

Even the United States Postal Service has been using OCR machines to sort mail since 1965 … so Google could well be using it for some months now, eh? :-)

What say you?
